Great art is often made by artists with problematic personal lives: Caravaggio, a 17th century Italian painter, was famous for his mesmerizing use of light and shade in drawing and painting, but he was a murderer; Picasso paved the way for cubism, but he was a known misogynist and had multiple affairs; Kanye West, also known as 'Ye', winner of 24 Grammy Awards and one of the 21st centuries most popular rappers, has repeatedly made antisemitic remarks. In some instances, artworks created by artists with problematic personal lives have been repurposed in contexts unrelated to the artists themselves.
